This intense course, teaches all things Cinema 4D from the ground up with lots of tip and tricks to bring things further. The course is taught by Cinema 4D guru, EJ Hassenfratz. The course covers the basics of modeling, lighting, animation, and many other important topics for 3D Motion Design. The goal of the course is to master basic 3D principles and lay the foundation for more advanced subjects in the future.

Below you'll see a highlight of my work broken down per assignment and the skills focused on..

The Ultimate Test

This was the final project of the course and was basically a culmination of everything I’ve learned.

To start it all off, we we tasked with creating an Instagram spot for Explain.ly and were provided with a : an animatic, some boards, VO and Explain.ly logo. A fairly simple project, but a lot of planning and work was put into it. Modeling, texturing, lighting, and animating were all utilized to create the numerous assets, scenes, and movements.. essentially everything was made from scratch.

KNOCKOUT

Focus here was on compositing, camera movements, animation, adding lighting as necessary, and adding compositing tags. Scene assets were provided pre-textured, as well as, a basic scene lighting setup. Used Mixamo for character animation and rendered out in passes so that the data board I animated and created in AE could be applied, also added dust particles and start titles which were created in photoshop.

Your Inner Spielberg

Skills: Camera, texturing, animating, lighting, and compositing. Employed the Stage camera in order to switch among multiple camera angles and movements.

Provided with : untextured models, basic lighting setup, scene layout, and music provided

We Built This City / Hustle & Bustle

This assignment was focused on mograph tools like effectors and cloners. We were tasked with building a little city with said tools. So big take away was the Mograph module and using it for modelling as well as animating!

Up in the Air

The animation was accomplished through particle emitters, splined sweeps, vibration tags, and flag deformers. I used splines and sweeps to draw out the planes’ routes through the sky using the pen tool and animated the keyframes. Detailed F-curve editing was done to account for speed changes due to motions, like slowing down at peaks and while banking. Vibration tags were applied to the islands to simulate floating, and the flag deformers were applied to the flags to have them flap in the wind. Also applied more animation in AE like the coins and start and ends titles to give a more game-like feel.

It’s a Trap!

Skills: Texturing, animation, camera movement /compositing, and additional lighting.

Basic animation techniques learned included creating simple movement and using the squash and stretch principle. In tandem with this, we also were introduced to keyframing and editing speed through F-curves to create more realistic/stylized movement. Also fine tuned animation, by adding speed lines, smoke/ sparks to animation in AE.

Models, scene setup, and basic lighting provided.
